Decorating

Isn’t this pretty? I found it yesterday while looking around for some plastic things I could use for moulds for when I make my bar soap.

Anyway just as I was walking by the lady put it in the bin in front of me. It looked SOOOO SPRING to me that I had to have it. It’s a davae (sp?) cover. I’m hoping my daughter will put it on her bed as it’s too small for mine. Either way, one day I will use it when she’s married if she doesn’t use it now. ;)

Sorry the pic is so dark. Our bedroom doesn’t have but the one window in it and so it’s dark in there. I washed the cover last night and spread it over our bed this morning to get a pic of it.

The background of it is white.

Playing Around (cont.)

I wanted to share some more of those antique store pix I took for you all. I never did finish sharing them all. Isn’t this the cutest tea set? Man I could have spent 3K very easy!

P1141214

Loved this set of dishes set up on this table! They were over 1K. REALLY PRETTY china though! The pic doesn’t show it justice at all! :(

P1141215

This sea shell is fake but looked so real that I had to feel of it. It was as light as a feather. You can see just how big it is from the crocks sitting with it. Those are large crocks.

P1141217

I dearly love this two little cabinets. I have no idea what they’re used for. Would be cute little night stands if you bed was up really high off the floor. ;)

P1141219

Sorry but some of my pix are blurry and I have no idea why.

These tea cups were SOOOO HARD for me to pass up! Aren’t these things FINE!? Seems like they were 35.00 EACH! OUCHP1141221

Check this one out!

P1141222

Check this thing out! LOL It’s almost as big as a volkswagon. ;) Not really but can you imagine having to push that thing around with a child in it? OR even getting it off the wagon or out of a car. lol

P1141223

Last but not least, check this out. Man I sure am glad things have changed for us women when it comes to washing the clothes! My Mom used to have one of those old ringer type washing machines. It was on our back porch. She was out there washing clothes one day and had to go inside for something and told me to stay away from it. I guess I had been hanging around being really curious about it. (that’s me, I love to see HOW things work!) Anyway as soon as she got out of sight, I went over to it and started putting the clothes through the thing when all of sudden that stupid thing sucked my arm up into it. I guess I was screaming like mad because she came a running and I don’t remember what happened after that. I don’t remember how she/they got me out of it. ???? BUT she never did have to tell me to stay away from it again! lol So when I see one of these, my arm hurts. ;)

P1141226

OK that will be it for today. BUT I do have many more to share so come back and visit with me again. :) Oh and do leave a comment! I LOVE THEM!

Walking

Went on my daily walk this evening after a little shower we had. In fact I was trying to get my walk in before the bottom fell out. They’re saying we’re under a tornado watch now. Anyway while I was walking I kept noticing how pretty the droplets of water was on the pines. I decided when I got done with my walking if it wasn’t flooding I would get my camera and take a few pix.

P1201249

P1201246

P1201242

Then in the next pix you can see views of our pond in front of the house. As you can see it’s a very dreary day.

P1201260

P1201258

Toward the middle of the pic is the dam of the pond. As you can see our grass is an old yucky brown color now in the dead of winter.

P1201252

I thought this next shot was neat with all the green on the pines and the brown pine straw on the ground. This is the wall of the pond on the opposite end of the dam.

P1201263

This is the end of my pix. Hope you enjoyed walking around in my yard with me!

Homemade Washing Powders

Yep, I made my very own washing powders last week and I really like the way it cleans our clothes and makes our whites really white! PLUS I love the way it smells. My nose itches when I get on the laundry detergent isle and THIS recipe doesn’t make my nose itch. I used bar soap Ivory because I couldn’t find the Fels Naptha bar soap they talked about in the recipe. It smells so fresh and clean when I pull it out of the washer and put it in the dryer.

You can go to google.com and do some research on the homemade washing powders. There are loads of folks making their own these day. Whether it be because of allergies or cost. You can make liquid OR you can make powders. The recipe below that I used are powders.

Laundry Detergent

1 cup Fels Naptha or Ivory soap (grated finely)
1/2 cup washing soda (Arm And Hammer makes this but it is NOT baking soda!) But I didn’t know this and am using the baking soda because it’s already mixed up. ;)
1/2 cup borax

Mix and stir in lidded container. For lightly soiled loads, use 1 TBS. For heavily soiled loads use 2 TBS.
Estimated cost: $1 for 32 TBS (this was on the recipe)

I used an old food processor that was left in the house when we bought it to grate the soap but you can just hand grater also the recipe states.

Sorry I can’t remember where I found that recipe!

http://down---to---earth.blogspot.com/2007/08/various-recipes-for-green-cleaning.html I LOVE this ladies blog! She has all kinds of cleaning supplies on here and all kinds of cleaning ideas etc.

Fels Naptha soap is here along with the washing soda……. http://www.soapsgonebuy.com/category_s/15.htm

Here is also another link for making washing powders. It is complete with step by step instructions and pix.

http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap2.htm

Next I want to make us some homemade bar soap. Here is a link I plan on using when I get all the items to do this with. HOMEMADE BAR SOAP   She said she used a stamp to make the design on the bars of soaps. I’ve got to find out if any stamp will work. I saw on one of the sites I was looking at that they make their own liquid soap as well. The grate the soap and put water in it and use it like liquid hand soap. My skin is just horrible in the winter time and they said this was good on the skin. So I have got to try it because my hands basically stays in water!  She said she hated bar soap and she uses this liquid soap for body wash and for hand washing. I have just GOT to make this one for my poor skin!!

Playin’ Around

What can you do when you’re waiting for your car to be fixed? Y you can shop at the antique stores! ;) and that’s JUST WHAT we did yesterday! My daughters car was in the shop and we played. This is pretty far from our home so we couldn’t go home and come back so we shopped. I thought about you all about half way through the first shop and started taking pix. As you can see from the pix there were loads and loads of tea cups! I am saving up for my bedroom floor covering or I would have bought lots of stuff!

OHHH and we also visited a cemetery. There were lots of old graves in it and we like to see old grave stones! I will share those pix later on another post.

Goin’ Away Party

Today while running around town wasting time while my daughters car got worked on we shopped at some antique stores. I will share some pix of all that later on though. Anyway on my way home I was listening to my Christmas CD my daughter got me of Jeff and Sheri Easter and this song was on it, Goin’ Away Party. I’ve never heard it before and I listened to it over and over again. WOW love this song!!! As I was listening I couldn’t help but think of my cousin Angie. She wasn’t born in 1900 and wasn’t 15 when she met the love of her life. But she did love her Jesus and was ready to see Him. This song reminded me of her sooo much as I listened.

I know this is how I would like people to feel when I’m gone. Lets have a party! This is the day we’ve waited for. No more struggling here and no more hard times here. Just peace and love with Jesus!! Anyway wanted to share the words to the song for those that haven’t heard it.

Goin' Away Party - By Jeff & Sheri Easter

Born in 1900 she had her share if hard times
And at the age of fifteen she met the love of her life
And how she adored Him, loved Him till her dyin' day
So we celebrated when we put her in the grave.

We threw  a goin' away party; it was the event of the year
The day that she lived for is finally here
The One that she loved wants her by His side
So strike up the band, it’s party time.

For many a year she served her community well
And on occasion she'd stumble, but this saint of
God never fell she was in love with Jesus,
He always stayed on her mind
And now they're together havin' one heavenly time!!

The One that she loves, He wants her by His side
Strike up the band, it’s party time
Strike up the band, it’s party time
It’s party time.

Marriage

Sometimes we see things one way and then when we read something about the subject we can see it in a whole different light. That’s what happened to me a few weeks ago. What am I talking about you ask?

A few weeks ago my niece was bragging about how her husband is better at certain things than she is and I made the statement we’re suppose to complete one another. I’ve been reading the book, Boundaries in Marriage, by: Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend for awhile now. After I made that statement to her and I read something in this book, I changed my thinking on that. In chapter 4 they talk about Oneness. Genesis 2:18 and Mark 10:7-8. He says oneness is built over time as a relationship grows and as two become one.

The movies don’t show us this part. When ours don’t look like some in the movies we become disillusioned and wonder what went wrong, did we marry the wrong person and at this point give up and part ways. They think they can do better with someone else, not knowing that the remedy probably lies in their own growth, not in finding a new person.  A new relationship will require the same growing pains, both as individuals and as a couple, that they are avoiding now.

The requirements for oneness is two complete people. The Bible defines a complete person as a mature person. They are able to do all things an adult life and relationship requires: give love and receive love, be independent and self sufficient, live out values honestly, be responsible, have self confidence, deal with problems and failures, and live out their talents, and have a life. IF two people who marry are complete, the oneness they establish will be complete. To the degree that either is less than complete as a person, the oneness will suffer under the strain of that incompleteness.

But many people see marriage as a ticket to short cut completeness or maturity. Therefore they don’t marry out of strength, but out of weakness. They marry someone to make up for what they do not possess on their own.

He says some folks say they are good balance for one another. This can be good if he is good at business and she is good at building a nest or visa versa, for example. But it isn’t good if she  could not survive in the real world on her own without him. If this is true she married a meal ticket or someone to take care of her in a childlike dependency.

Complimenting means bringing different perspectives, talents, abilities, experiences, and other gifts to the relationship and forming a partnership. Completing means making up for one’s immaturity as a person.  It is an attempt to use another person to balance an imbalance in one’s character, and it never works.

The Bible talks about completeness as a view of maturity. James 1:4

You must become a complete individual on your own in order to have true oneness with your spouse.

That’s all I am going to share about the book. I am really learning a lot from it and in case you are interested in it, you can probably find it at www.amazon.com for much less than at a book store. This is NOT always true but lots of times it is. In fact I found the workbook to go with it at the Salvation Army the other day for .50. But it really is a good book!

I just found some used hardback versions for 1.99 and 2.00+ HERE!

Projects

Rose is needing a project! lol IF I could just get my flooring for my bedroom I would have one. ;) Trying to save up the money now for the floor covering.

The front and back door needs a coat of paint as well as the front porch and the patios BUT it’s too cold for painting! I guess I could take the wallpaper off my bathroom wall but really don’t want to start a major project like that and then have to wait about painting that wall as well. UGHHHHH what to do? LOL I’m sure I will think of one I CAN DO shortly if I keep thinking!

Too cold outside to work in the flower beds or to get mulch for them. So I am washing clothes and washing up our dogs bed covers. Going to give him a bath next to.

I just washed and cleaned up my meat grinder I found yesterday. I oiled the little round disks so they wouldn’t rust. Now I can box that up and put it away.

Hubby forgets to pour out the ashes from the fireplace. I have always done that since he worked and I didn’t and that way he could spend his time after getting home from work, getting wood or whatever. That is when we did use the fireplace which isn’t all the time. So now he doesn’t even think of pouring the ashes out. Every time I think about it he’s outside busy or gone. So they were over flowing and had to be dumped.

I guess I COULD get that quilt put together. I have all the parts for it already and I could lay that out and pen it together so I could start tacking it together. HMMMM I think I may have just found the project! lol

What project do you have going now?

Thrift Store Shopping

We were in town today and I was driving and for some reason my car turned left like it was driving itself. ;) And we turned into the thrift store parking lot. Anyway this is what I found. Guess what I am going to do now? DH has been wanting to get a deer and we want to grind it up in like hamburger meat. So now we can do it ourselves. It also has the instruction booklet with it along with all it’s parts. It was 20.00 and I think we can use this one bunches. It also slices, shreds, cuts veggies as well. Oh it also has the sausage things that you can make your own link sausage to.

Howdy and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Yeah I am STILL kicking! ;) Just been a little busy with the holidays! I think it’s going to slow down a little now. At least I HOPE IT IS! Now is the time for taking down all the decorations….ughhhhh AND all that dusting and cleaning AND rearranging that I do at this time of the year. For some reason after I take down all the decorations I want to change things around in our living room. Don’t ask me WHY, I just do. I guess it’s because all the lights and glitz is gone from all the Christmas decorating and things are drab and I need change. That’s what I am going to say it is anyway! ;)

So I hope you’re having a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! I don’t think I am making any new year resolutions this year but I am going to TRY and lose just a little weight. Not going to even set a goal at that. Just going to start and see where I go from there. I need to lose some so I can breath. ;) Am on the look out now for me a treadmill so I can walk on the days it’s freezing cold outside or raining. I know I will grow very tired of the thing sitting in my living room BUT I hope I can make myself use it so it wont become a fixture in there.

OK I think I am going to bed. It’s about that time again.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!!!
