Up-Cycling and Restyling

 

I have been seeing blogs all over the internet where folks are refashioning clothes and I just love some of the ideas! There are some really cute ideas out there! So they gave me some ideas as you will see.

Now I WISH I’d took a before pic of this dress on me but I don’t do sleeveless clothes so it would have just been hanging on a hanger. I MAY have taken a pic of it when I bought it from my favorite thrift store and I hope I did so I can post it when I find it. I only paid .50-1.00 can’t remember which. I don’t wear dresses much so I haven’t even worn it in all this time I have had it. Took it out of the closet to donate to the Goodwill.

It was a long dress with a tank top style on the top of it. I knew when I bought it I would have to wear a  blouse under it since it had no sleeves. I knew that would be HOT in this humid summer weather we have here in the deep south! So I decided to just donate it and really did have this dress IN my car for a week now I know to donate to the Goodwill. Never made it there yet and yesterday we were tending to some business in town when it hit me, this would make a cute blouse and I could cut it off and make me some sleeves with the tail end of this long thing! So that’s JUST what I did and I dearly love it now!

So while thinking about how I wanted it to be I decided I wanted a rounded tail on it, what we used to call a taper tail. Don’t know WHAT they call it now a days. I have always LOVED tapered tails so that’s what I decided to do with it. Tapered tail/rounded tail and then put in some sleeves. After I cut it off I walked into the bathroom to see in the mirror if I needed to trim off more before I hemmed it. Hubby was sitting in the living room and says, that looks nice. It wasn’t even hemmed yet. lol I did it all in about an hours time so not bad for my little investment huh? I have a lot of clothes with black in them so I can do a lot of stuff with it, wear it with a skirt, or a pair of slacks or blue jeans. Dress it up or dress it down.

My daughter and I have always said we need to start a designing business for large ladies because the larger the lady the larger the prints seem to get sometimes. I liked the print on this one because I love flowers and black to AND the print is smaller. So I’m so glad I thought to do this because I needed some clothes that fit me because I’ve lost weight and most of my clothes are too large now.

So I might just get in the designing business after all.

When I wear it maybe I can think to get a pic of me in it so I can post it on here for you to see.  So if you have a long dress you don’t wear, you can do something with it as well so you can wear it to. Now I have a nice summer blouse that will be cool to wear.

Redoing Furniture

 

This is what I am doing now. I worked on it some the other day trying to get the rest of the veneer peeled off it. I had filled in all the cracks in it with some wood putty but am afraid that will harden and pop out in the future and once I’m done with it I want to be done with it. So I have decided to TRY and get that out and fill in the cracks with some sawdust and glue so it will stay in there and not come out later. I am going to get the paint off the top of it and stain and varnish the top and then paint the rest of it this color. That’s my plans for right now anyway. I really really like this piece!

 

This is how wide the cracks are in the top and then some are in one of the doors. This was before I put the wood putty in it.

This is a close up shot of the front of it. I have got all the veneer off it now and got it sanded down as well.

Now to get the wood putty out and fill it in with some sawdust and glue to hold it.

I really like this piece on it. I can’t wait to get it all fixed up.

Back inside until another pretty day so I can work on it some more. I’m thinking about putting some different knobs on it but not sure yet. I NEED some knobs on the doors that will match these that was on it.

Anyway figured you guys would like to see the project I am working on now. I will post more pix later as I work on it.

Tornado in Hattiesburg

Just wanted you all to know I am fine. Figured some might be worried since they know I live near Hattiesburg,MS.

I sure hope everyone is OK in Hattiesburg though! Sounds like the towns in a mess now and USM suffered some damage and one of the houses is gone they said. Thank goodness the students were off for Marda Gra’s.

Just wanted to let you all know we’re fine and had no damage!

 

 

Edited to add: My husband, daughter and I have been helping with the clean up and it IS a mess. Spots are still in need of much help! My husband has helped for like 5 days now and my daughter is off again on Monday and we’re all going back to help out again. I just felt guilty sitting around here not doing much that was very important with all those folks needing help and thanking God that He has given me the energy that I COULD help out!! We’ve seen some stuff and a lot of it is over whelming there is sooooo much to do and sooooo much stuff you don’t know where to get started picking up stuff. VERY sad situation and sooooo many folks needing help! LOADS of volunteers and such a blessing! We were cleaning up at one house yesterday and my daughter got a text on her phone and it was from a restaurant that said if you’re volunteering, bring your gloves in and you’ll get 50% off on your meal! WOW how nice!!!! SO MANY nice things like this going on around Hattiesburg that it brings tears to your eyes. We’re to help each other and treat each other how we want to be treated so I’d want folks helping me clean and do whatever needed doing if I were to be effected by a tornado or hurricane. So I’m just thankful I am being able to help!!! PLEASE keep all these folks in your prayers as well as all the volunteers helping clean all this mess up.

Food Fermenting

 

Well I got everything I was fermenting in the fridge now except for the garlic and the sauerkraut. The sauerkraut goes in the fridge tomorrow though.

We tasted the dill garlic pickles and they needed more dill so I added some more but they were very nice and crispy! We really liked the nice and crispy!

Can’t wait to try the garlic and the other things to.

 

Just wanted to update you on how things are going in my fermenting world.

 

Worked around outside a little yesterday as we had 70 plus temps here. Man that was soooo nice! Just wish I’d had time and the energy to bleach everything down and clean it well to. But ran out of energy and had to quit.
